      !MILITARY Civil War 1861-1865 Cited in Barton Roll of Honor, compiled by Carl James Barton, first ed. 2001 "CSA. Enlisted on 20 July 1861 at Camp Pickens, Sandy Springs, South Carolina at the age of 30. Served first as a Private in Company C, Orr's Regiment of Rifles under Captain Joseph Norton. Promoted to Corporal on 12 August 1861 and was transferred in Nov/Dec 1861 to Company E, 2nd South Carolina Rifles, commanded by Colonel R. E. Bowen. He was transferred Sept/Oct 1862 and was shortly afterwards elected 2nd Lieutenant of Company H, of the 2nd Rifles and served with it to the end of the war, surrendering at Appomattox, Virginia... (REF: CMSR#CW-670 & CW-696, The Book "Confederate Military History" pg 449 & 450 written a short time after the war, & Broadfoot's Roster of CSA Soldiers. Pg 422) (pg447)" (BART385)
