    The famous outlaws the James Brothers and the Younger Brothers attempted to rob the First National Bank of Northfield. Everything that could go wrong did including armed citizen resistence. Escaping badly wounded with but $27 stolen funds the gang fled to the woods. Dozens of posse's throughout the state were formed and pursued them. Sheriff Ara Barton and his Rice County men apprehended the robbers about two weeks later and transported them to the state prison amidst vigilante cries for them to be lynched.
