!MILITARY Civil War 1861-1865 Cited in Barton Roll of Honor, compiled by Carl James Barton, first ed. 2001 "CSA. Served as a Private in the Burnet Guards. This unit was organized in Burnet County, Texas on 8 June 1861 under Captain William H. Magill. These units were organized to protect the "backdoor" of Texas lest Mexico or Indians decided to take advantage of the war situation. Most of these men served a few days a month and provided their own horse, guns and were paid $2.00 per day.
