- !CITED in "The Barton Book revised edition" compiled by Robert Dacus Nally for The Barton Historical Society, Genealogy Pub. Service, 1994 (BART287)
!MILITARY Civil War 1861-1865 Cited in Barton Roll of Honor, compiled by Carl James Barton, first ed. 2001 "CSA. A search of Alabama records show a David Barton as enlisting on 7 April 1862 at Warenton, Alabama. Served as a Corporal in Company C, 48th Alabama Infantry Regiment. Born in Georgia, a farmer, a resident of Aurora, GA., single and 18 years of age. [does not agree with this subject's birthdate] Took part in the following Battles: Cedar Run 9 Aug. 1862, Manassas 20-30 Aug. 1862, absent sick from Germantown 1 Sept. 1862 to Sharpsburg 17 Sept. 1862, Fredericksburg 13 Dec. 1863, Suffolk, VA 3 May 1863, and captured at Gettysburg 2 July 1863. Further research is needed as to whether this David is ours, however three of his four brothers served and it is possible he may have as well. (REF: CMSR) 9pg536)" (BART385)
